LINGLE – The town of Lingle would typically be considered a small, quiet place where not much really happens, and by big city standards, there really isn’t a “whole lot to do.”

The town staff is small, but every council member, law-enforcement officer, emergency responder, educator and health official each and every day gives 110% to make sure things are always safe, quiet and running smoothly. They may be small in numbers, but rest-assure each of them has a lot on their plate each day.

Despite being a peaceful, quiet little town where not much really happens, that’s not to say that occasionally things don’t need improvement, and certain mistakes need to be corrected discreetly.

In recent weeks, Lingle maintenance staff has been forced to unclog, out at town sewage ponds, non-degradable objects that are being consistently, and extensively flushed down toilets within town.

According to maintenance staff Logan Dailey, the task is becoming more and more difficult, and could have significant long-term consequences on the community if improvements are not made.

“We want to ask for help from our friends in the town of Lingle,” Dailey said. “We have recently had to clear several blockages in the town's sewer system. We have determined the causes of the blockages to be from items flushed into the sewer system, which should have never entered the sewer system. These items include paper towels, cloth material and feminine care products. One should never flush these items into the sewer system: paper towels, facial tissues, contraceptives, feminine care products, ‘flushable’ wipes, baby wipes, disinfecting wipes, medicine, towels, rags or other cloth materials.”

According to Dailey, when these particular problems become severe enough, they can lead to plumbing issues throughout the entire town, presumably even affecting those who do dispose of bathroom waste properly.

It should be noted that with an enormous amount of precipitation thus far this summer, this only adds to sewage problems with a large amount of vegetation continuing to clog pipes.

“The only items that should go down the toilet and into the sewage system are waste and toilet paper,” Dailey added. “Toilet paper manufacturers design their products to break down or degrade in the sewage system, preventing any blockages or backups. The Town of Lingle Maintenance Department particularly appreciates your attention to this matter. With our great citizenry's help, we can help keep our sewage system working effectively and efficiently.”

Dailey further added that despite recent concerns with sewage, maintenance staff will also be repainting the crosswalks in and around the Lingle-Fort Laramie school zones, as well as the Senior Center with the upcoming weeks.

“Please be aware that the paint dries quickly, but if you drive through immediately after application, you might get some unwanted paint on your vehicle.”

Lingle maintenance will also be installing new playground equipment throughout the fall and winter at Whipple Park, as well as a community garden in Lira Park. The garden is still in early stages, but maintenance is hopeful the project will be ready for planting by next spring.

To add some final words, Dailey noted the overwhelming support and effort always provided by the residents of Lingle.

“Just thank you to the community for helping us out with keeping lawns mowed, keeping weeds down and help keeping the storm sewers cleared,” Dailey concluded. “With all the rain it keeps our system, which is different from sewage, clean and keeping water flowing. We greatly appreciate our citizenry helping keep the weeds down and mowing their lawns. We have been working hard to keep our town looking beautiful, and your help is immensely appreciated! Thank you to the community for helping us do our jobs.”
